On Base Advanced

Introducing the Next Level of Tabletop Baseball

What is On Base Advanced?

On Base Advanced (OBA) is the advanced version of the sabermetric-driven game, On Base Baseball. In the advanced version there are no predetermined outcomes for each at bat. Rather, each roll affects the next roll until a final outcome is arrived at. OBA uses the most granular statistical data available to recreate the look and feel of each at bat at the pitch level, not just the at bat level. This leads to computer game detail on the tabletop.

OBA is the only cards and dice game to use real Statcast data on both the pitcher and hitter cards. Each at bat is resolved using these granular statistics, starting with the pitcher's repertoire of pitches all the way to the batter's contact type percentage. This provides a real-time feel to the game where outcomes are determined by the players on the field, not the game designer.

What makes On Base Advanced unique?

On Base Advanced pushes tabletop baseball games forward in all three phases of the game: Pitching, Hitting, and Fielding.

Pitching

Because OBA is a pitch-by-pitch game you have unprecedented control over the pitch sequence of each at bat. You can allow the pitcher's actual pitch type ratios to decide which pitch is thrown or take over control and manually call pitches. Our pitcher cards allow for both. You can see the strengths and weaknesses of each batter so throw that breaking ball with 2 strikes and go for the K!

Hitting

Every pitch and swing for both hitters and pitchers is given splits. Want to know what percentage of singles Mike Trout hit off of left-handed fastballs? We've got that data right on the card. And it's not just to win a bet. Granular data like this is used in determining the outcome of every at bat. A batter's unique abilities are represented in his ability to get hits against different types of pitches, avoid strikeouts, and even his tendencies to pull the ball or spray it to the opposite field.

Defense

OBA uses a unique system of fielding matrices that allow you to visualize where the ball is going on the field on any given at bat. A pitcher's tendency to give up home runs and a batter's tendency to pull the ball are all built into the unique fielding matrices. Also included are range plays, error checks, home run checks, and even foul outs. The outcome of any at bat isn't known until the final roll.

In-Game Strategy

No other tabletop baseball game takes pitch-by-pitch strategies to this level. Should you steal on the first pitch or let the hitter see a few pitches first? When you need to get back in the count, choose a pitch that will be in the zone or challenge the batter when he's down two strikes. Give the take sign on a 3-0 pitch when you need to get runners on base. Deep counts, visualizing the action on the field, and the tension of an at bat all come out in On Base Advanced.

Thoughts from a veteran gamer--

"Although this game has incredible depth...it is still simple to play. You have done all the work with the in-depth, detailed metrics that represent the true, realistic outcomes of the player and all the gamer has to do is roll some dice and do a little math. Even the range, error checks, and stolen bases are just dice rolls and simple math. No chart lookups. And the fielding matrices are actually fun to use!

It is really a unique game, the likes I've not seen. It is a game that plays a little slower but is rich in detail and provides the real feel of baseball."
